Civic & Community Engagement

The slogan of the National Urban League movement is: "Empowering Communities, Changing Lives". Today many California families are financially distressed and feeling the impact of cutbacks in public service, including the declining performance of public institutions such as schools, libraries, colleges, and universities and social service providers.  The ULSDC is partnering with other community groups in San Diego County to provide a forum for grassroots community input on public policy issues.

Civic Engagement & Leadership Project

The ULSDC is partnering with other community groups in San Diego County to provide a forum for grassroots community input on public policy issues.  The “I Hear You” Listening Tour is one element of a civic engagement and leadership project that the Urban League is partnering with. The initiative intends to document community priorities and to provide a mechanism for community engagement to meaningfully impact public policy formulation and to provide for increased accountability. The first meeting kicked off on May 7, 2011, and preparation for more meetings and discussions are currently occurring. Please visit our facebook page for more updates.
