Family and Financial Planning Education
Financial Literacy Program
The goal of this program is to assist our target population in accessing a variety of financial institutions and using them in a way that promotes healthy growth and development of their financial position. This program seeks to educate participants in all levels of financial decision making. The Financial Literacy program uses its classes as a gateway into home ownership. This program also includes Credit and Debt Management Counseling & Workshops, as well as Identity Theft Training.
First-Time Home Buyer Training
The League provides one-on-one assistance to individuals with questions about home ownership. First-time home buyer workshops are held quarterly in conjunction with local realtors.
Each quarter, ULSDC conducts a workshop for approximately 20 to 25 people. On average, this department speaks with home owners to answer ownership questions. This program has approximately a 90% graduation/completion rate. Eighty percent of participants have very little knowledge of the financial industry. Upon completion of this course, 100% of the participants have shown substantial improvement in their knowledge.
