Health and Quality of Life

About the Program

Health and Quality of Life delivers sustainable programs to underserved communities, in San Diego, Imperial and Southern Riverside Counties, that create greater access to healthcare and advocate for the elimination of health disparities.

How We Help

The Urban League of San Diego County continued our strategic approach to eliminating health disparities in the African American and other underserved populations in the community by introducing new awareness and prevention programs, expanding existing outreach initiatives, and connecting clients to high quality health care.

Wellness Tour

For the fourth consecutive year the National Urban League, in partnership with Walgreens sponsored a health and wellness tour.  The NUL/Walgreen Wellness Tour provides wellness information and free screenings for diabetes, hypertension, blood glucose levels, bone density and body mass index in 15 Urban League cities and has served well over 35,000 community residents to date. To learn more about the tour and its schedule, please visit Walgreens.com/tour.  San Diego County was included among the 15 Urban League cities.  More than 1,200 Urban League constituents participated during the tour that took place in strategic sites throughout the county.

EMASS

Community health workers act as coaches and guides for people in the community who need assistance and understanding navigating the complex and often confusing health care system, including medical facility telephone systems. The trained Community health workers are experienced, culturally competent and knowledgeable practitioners who are trained.  The important services they provide include, referrals, counseling, health management and helping clients find medical homes and is often considered to be the missing link on the health care team.
