About the Programs Education and Youth Development (EYD) develops innovative programs to support academic achievement, civic involvement, and the physical and emotional development of children and youth. Our Signature Programs in education, post-secondary success and youth leadership are designed to help us reach the goal that youth constituents will be ready for college, work, and life. For more information on any of the programs, contact Kea Hagan at 266.6265 or kea@sdul.org 10 to Succeed Youth Mentoring Program
The program in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), and San Diego Youth Action Board(YAB) blends the traditional school based student leadership team comprised of ninth-grade young men and women of color, identified for participation based on the need for improvement in attendance, academic performance, and discipline history. The program also has a tutorial, mentoring, and work connection component. Students meet each day after school on several campuses. For more information contact the Executive Director of YAB, Derrick White, at 619.261.4240 or derrick_white@yahoo.com. More information on YAB can also be found at sandiegoyab.org Project Ready NULITES Project Ready NULITES prepares youth for successful lives after high school by providing enhanced academic support to students in preparation for post-secondary success. The program includes special workshops, field trips, and college tours in addition to the curriculum. After several weeks of work with the curriculum and participating in workshops, students participate in a community service project that impacts their community around social change using a consensus organizing model. Project Ready NULITES is supported by a grant from AT&T and the National Urban League BE SMART - Digital Connections (Math and Science STEM) Program BE SMART stands for a Better Education in Science, Math, and Arts for Talented Young Men. It is a program that provides a positive option in a safe environment in which to develop skills in math, science, and the arts while having fun. Participants are encouraged to enter professions in science, engineering, mathematics, and nontraditional roles in the arts. The program targets young men in the middle school and high school, initially within 5 to 10 miles of the Urban League and eventually, country wide. The program exposes students to adult male role models - scientist, mathematicians, engineers and artist (science, nature, medical illustrators) - who share their knowledge, passion and experiences in science, engineering, and art careers.
